Englehart resident wins $1M in Canadian Cancer Society lottery

An Ontario Northland engineer from Englehart is a $1 million richer after winning the grand prize in the Canadian Cancer Society's fall lottery.

"It's unbelievable, unbelievable," Don Parker told reporters following a cheque presentation Friday at the Canadian Cancer Society in North Bay.

Parker, who buys a ticket each year for the lottery, was at work when he got the call two weeks ago informing him that he had won, although he didn't believe it at first.

After realizing he had truly won, Parker shared the news with his family, but says they didn't believe him either.

"They thought I was making it up until I showed them the website, and then they started to believe me," he said.

With a couple more years left at work before his retirement, Parker plans to put some of the money away and use the rest to help out his kids before enjoying his winnings.
