Turns Out Mercury Might Really Be World'southward Closest Neighbouring Planet

To test it out, they created and ran a simulation charting the positions of all the planets in the Solar Organisation over a menstruum of 10,000 years, and compared the results with the traditional altitude measurements and the PCM results. The simulation only varied by 1 pct with the PCM - only upwardly to 300 percentage with the traditional distances. Yikes.

"As best we can tell, no i has come upwardly with a concept like PCM to compare orbits," the engineers write.

"With the right assumptions, PCM could possibly be used to become a quick estimate of the boilerplate distance between any prepare of orbiting bodies. Perhaps it can exist useful for apace estimating satellite communication relays, for which signal strength falls off with the square of distance.

"In whatever example, at least we know now that Venus is not our closest neighbour - and that Mercury is everybody's."
